Film and Oscar-what do we care more?

Last year I went to “experience” Oscar in a movie theatre as I did during the world cup. I don’t care about soccer at all, but I do care about film. However, it doesn’t really matter. It is just another excuse to get drunk in the crowds and experience the atmosphere.
What is the atmosphere we are trying to engage with? I know I will see the list of names everywhere on the Internet in no time, but one thing always bothers me, most of people talks about films after they watch Oscar. It’s like rich people talk about art when they go to a high-class gallery. Do they really care about art?
According to a 2012 report by the LA Times, the Oscar Academy is 94 percent white, 77 percent male, and has a median age of 62.
I am not denying how great these films are, I watched them all, and I love Birdman, Whiplash and Ida. The thing is there are many other amazing films in the world need to be discovered. There is nothing surprise about Oscar because we all can guess the winner and all those tears.
After all, it is all about how we engage with the world with mainstream standards. If I have a choice, I want to experience awards that showing more film and filmmakers who got different voices and truly being creative and innovative.
